1 Samuel 16:1-13
Thought for the Day
God will use me for a good purpose.
Jesus said, “You didn’t choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you could go and produce fruit and so that your fruit could last.” – John 15:16 (CEB)
When I first gave my life to Christ, I was heavily involved with church activities — I wanted to know more of God. Less than a year later, my church’s youth president left unexpectedly, and the position became vacant. One Sunday, the Provincial Pastor showed up unannounced and said he would appoint a church member as the youth president that day. Ultimately, I was chosen. But I had not received religious education or training. I was simply a zealous member who was always present at church events. But once I was appointed, I started training for the role. In a short time, to the glory of God, I had built a youth community that had never existed before in the church.
Studying scripture over the years, I have realized that God often uses people who are unprepared or unqualified. Gideon felt unqualified in his own eyes (see Judg. 6:11-16). David’s family least expected him to be chosen by God (see 1 Sam. 16:6-13). The apostle Paul was against Christ (see Acts 9:1-16).
God can use anyone. No matter our past or our abilities, when we surrender ourselves totally, God will empower us for the work we are called to do.
Today’s Prayer
Heavenly Father, use us as your vessels to spread the gospel and build your kingdom in Jesus’ name. Amen.
